The Hull Stool

Designed by Bridge Design Collective, a collaborative effort with Michael Siy and Silvia Lan, aiming to bridge the gap between humanity and material to enhance everyday experience. As part of a Furniture Design class at Emily Carr University, we were given the challenge to create a high stool for 18 Karat to be constructed using Western Maple. Guidelines for this challenge also specified the importance to produce a full functioning piece of furniture with the highest weight-to-strength ratio while using the least amount of materials. In the end, out of 6 different stools the Hull stool came in at the lightest weighing only 3.7 pounds. The use of laminated strips to create the seating surface reacts to the users weight and accommodates accordingly allowing the user to settle into the piece.
